The Mexican series makes waves after its release.

Netflix's The Surrogacy is already being hailed as the biggest foreign show the streaming giant will have had this year, as the 24-episode series has attracted scores of fans just one day after its release. Created by Araceli Guajardo, the show addresses many controversial issues, making it quite distinct from any other telenovela out there.

Guajardo is undoubtedly attempting to make a difference in society with this show, and if it becomes the success that Netflix is hoping for, she may just achieve her goal.

The show follows a young woman who decides to work as a surrogate mother for an extremely wealthy and private Mexican family, and her arrival at the luxurious villa instantly changes the dynamics of the household. As the young woman delves deeper and deeper into the family's secrets, it becomes painfully clear that these people will do anything to conceal their reprehensible actions.

With such an intriguing synopsis, it's no wonder that fans immediately began binge-watching the show and sharing rave reviews on social media.

'Netflix's The Surrogacy has it all: betrayal, seduction, issues of class, color & colorism, sexism, patriarchy, infidelity and Mexico's version of white feminism. Telenovelas are extra,' a fan remarked.

Furthermore, The Surrogacy is quite different from the usual telenovelas in terms of direction, as the show looks as good as some of the most popular shows in America. The creative team behind the show really tried to push the envelope of Mexican television's worldwide fame.

However, with 24 episodes being released in one large batch, the show may prove to be a bit overwhelming for some fans who have grown accustomed to seeing ten or perhaps twelve episodes in a season. In that sense, The Surrogacy's narrative moves at a slow pace, but that is not inherently a bad thing, as people who enjoy a gradual and systematic approach to storytelling will undoubtedly fall in love with Netflix's new offering.

Overall, it seems that The Surrogacy is destined for success, and Netflix is betting that fans will be interested in the show, which could prove to be the Mexican equivalent of Squid Game.
