Why There Are No Reruns of Chicago Fire or Med on NBC This Fall
Chicago P.D. will be aired instead.
Dick Wolf's One Chicago series, without a doubt, is one of the most successful primetime franchises today, and for good reason. Combining interesting weekly episodes with satisfying character development, all three Chicago shows have struck on a winning formula that has made the franchise a huge hit with audiences. However, big changes are looming for One Chicago, judging from NBC's recently unveiled surprising fall schedule.
For some time now, Wednesday nights on NBC have been synonymous with three hours of One Chicago each week, with Chicago Fire, Chicago Med and Chicago P.D. each having one rerun episode. This fall, however, fans should not expect to see Fire or Med on Wednesdays, as only P.D. has retained its usual 10 p.m. slot. Here's why.
Conflicts With Other Shows
Despite Wednesday night not being the busiest, NBC has recently opted to air live episodes of America's Got Talent and reruns of the Night Court revival during this time. It appears that this pattern will continue with the fall schedule, as the network simply does not have the room to air Med and Fire reruns, choosing instead to keep the episodes exclusive to Peacock.
However, given that P.D. is arguably the least popular of the One Chicago shows, fans have been left wondering why NBC decided to keep broadcasting it on Wednesday nights and not replace it with Med or Fire.
The Perfect Time
It's important to note that P.D. will continue to air at its usual 10 p.m. slot. As the show has been airing at this time for years, it would be quite unusual for NBC to suddenly replace it with a different show. After all, fans of the show have become accustomed to tuning in to NBC at this time.
Additionally, 10 p.m. on Wednesday is one of the most popular timeslots of the week. Seeing how Chicago P.D. is struggling as it is, were it to be removed from this slot, its ratings would drop even further and NBC certainly wouldn't want that to happen.
So, at the end of the day, keeping P.D. in its usual Wednesday 10 pm slot might be the right choice for NBC, seeing how the other two Chicago One shows can do just fine without reruns.
