Whatever Happened to Leslie Grace After Axed Batgirl Movie?
The rising star is nowhere to be seen.
Summary
- The cancellation of Batgirl really hurt Leslie Grace's career, but she is slowly coming back.
- Grace will probably never work with DC again, and her recent comments prove it.
- Despite a few setbacks in her career, the star is ready to bounce back next year.
When the musical In the Heights premiered in 2021, fans and critics were more than sure that Leslie Grace, an accomplished singer at the time but a newcomer to the world of acting, would be the next big thing in Hollywood within a few years. And at first, it looked like they were right, as Grace soon joined the DCEU and landed a starring role in the Batgirl movie, alongside the likes of Brendan Frasier, J.K. Simmons and Michael Keaton.
However, Warner Bros. and its new management infamously shelved the project to cut some tax costs, sending shockwaves through the DC community. The movie had already finished filming, and it was truly strange to see the producers refuse to release it. And while it was tragic not to see more of Frasier's work, Grace was the real victim of the situation.
A star on the rise
Batgirl was supposed to take Grace to the next level of fame, cementing her as the brightest rising star in the industry, but all those dreams were cut short when the movie was shelved. And it looks like the actress has no intention of trying to continue her work with the DC brand, openly bashing the producers for canceling the movie in her interviews.
'But the film that I got to see — the scenes that were there — was incredible. There was definitely potential for a good film, in my opinion. Maybe we’ll get to see clips of it later on,' Grace said.
All is not lost
While some fans were sure that Grace's fall from grace was permanent, as the star recently appeared in the podcast series How to Win Friends and Disappear People, which looks like a big step back from headlining blockbuster movies, the reality is that she is doing quite well.
Leslie is currently filming two movies, In the Summers, a small drama in which she co-stars with The Flash's Sasha Calle, and The Thicket, a crime drama that also stars Juliette Lewis and Peter Dinklage.
Both of these projects sound quite prestigious, so it looks like Grace's career is in good shape, at least for the foreseeable future.
