The long-awaited season turned out to be a complete failure.

Even before the second season of Good Omens arrived on Amazon Prime early last week, fans had doubts about its quality, all because of a questionable decision by series creator Neil Gaiman.

Instead of writing the second season based on the original story he created with the late Terry Pratchett, Gaiman decided to write a continuation from scratch, much to the chagrin of fans. And while the recently released season can't be called bad, it's certainly disappointing for millions of viewers who have waited four years to see it.

One of the reasons for that is the pathetic cliffhanger ending where Crowley finally kisses Aziraphale for the first time, only to make us wait God knows how long to see the beloved characters again. Treating the fan base like that certainly didn't earn Gaiman any points, as people began to accuse the writer of queer-baiting them.

Second, the creators' decision not to bring back Frances McDormand as the all-seeing narrator was absolutely terrible. Many fans note that the first season worked so well almost entirely because of McDormand, whose narration made the entire show feel coherent and structured. Season 2 turned out to be unfocused and underwhelming, as even fan-favorite Aziraphale and Crowley appeared directionless without the narrator's lead.

Add to that the fact that after stopping literal Armageddon in Season 1, it was incredibly strange to see the heroes spend the entire second season trying to figure out why Gabriel left Heaven.

With the stakes so low, it's no wonder that some viewers simply stopped caring about Good Omens halfway through the season.

All in all, Good Omens Season 2 sadly degraded the previously great series into just another boring fantasy show, leading Amazon Prime to possibly cancel it before the planned Season 3. Some say that Neil Gaiman has single-handedly ruined the legacy of his own and Terry Pratchett's work, and fans are obviously quite disappointed in him because of that.

'I've so been looking forward to today. Unfortunately, this season made me feel the same way people feel about the bad Star Wars prequels,' a Redditor complained, echoing the sentiment of others. 'All the things I loved about the style and humor and scale of Good Omens were zapped out of it, and they left us with glorified fan fiction.'
