How Ladd Drummond Is Doing After His Accident Has Fans Seriously Worried

Ladd Drummond, husband of Food Network star Ree Drummond (aka The Pioneer Woman), has had a rough summer — and fans are beginning to notice.
Ree recently opened up on her blog about the toll the ranch life has taken on Ladd this year. Though she framed it lightly, her words didn't sugarcoat the reality:
"Ladd has had... a busy, slightly rough summer. The work, the early mornings, the unrelenting grind, the exhaustion... it has been a little much."
She described one day in particular that left her shaken — watching Ladd limp into the house, "covered in dust and blood" after a brutal shift. That's when she finally said, partly joking, partly not:
"I don't think we can do this anymore."
This isn't the first health scare Ladd has had. Back in 2021, he broke his neck in two places during a truck collision on the ranch while responding to a fire. He still made it to their daughter Alex's wedding, neck brace and all.
This summer, his condition isn't tied to one dramatic event — just a relentless grind that's taken a visible toll. Ree admitted she's been asking herself tough questions:
"How much harder can you work, how much longer can you do this, are you okay... is what I was really thinking."
The only upside? Some help around the ranch.
- Paige Drummond, the couple's 24-year-old daughter, moved back home in January to work on the ranch full-time.
- She's currently living in the house that belonged to Ladd's late parents, Chuck and Nan Drummond.
- According to Ree, Paige is "getting banged up, scratched, bruised, and clobbered" — but she's holding her own.
"She's very strong, not just physically, but she's got a pretty strong heart and personality... she's jumped in and learned the ropes — not as Ladd's kid, but as one of the cowboys, basically."
Still, the core concern remains: how much longer can Ladd keep pushing through the injuries, exhaustion, and physical strain of ranch life?
As Ree put it, watching him smile and enjoy Paige's recent engagement helped — a moment of relief in a tough season. But fans reading between the lines are understandably worried.
The man's working himself to the bone. And while he'd never admit it — Ree says he'd just call it "part of life" — the wear is starting to show.
