Sex Education Season 4 is the Show's Worst, and Rotten Tomatoes Score Proves It
The beloved show seems to have lost its mojo.
Although Sex Education never reached the same level of popularity as Squid Game, Stranger Things, or Wednesday, it remains one of Netflix's most prized possessions. The series has garnered rave critical reviews and a cult following, making this teen drama one of the best of its kind in the market.
However, the recently released final season proved to be a massive letdown for fans, who were quick to accuse the writers of completely ruining it.
The final batch of episodes no longer has the show's unique atmosphere. The formerly light-hearted series took on a far more somber tone, a shift not many viewers were prepared for. However, the change in mood isn't the only reason people hated season 4.
Disappointing Finale
While each of the previous three seasons earned respectable ratings from fans on Rotten Tomatoes, the fourth chapter of Otis' story only managed to get a dismal 35% audience rating. Even though critics lauded the fourth season as much as the previous ones, the show's fans beg to differ, pointing to numerous issues with the latest installment.
For starters, all of the main cast members seem far too old to still be portraying teenagers, especially given the significant amount of time since their initial appearance on Sex Education in 2019. Furthermore, the new season introduces so many new characters and storylines that it feels overwhelming, particularly when compared to the laid-back, casual nature of the first season.
Stab in the Back
Although Sex Education is often classed as a teen drama, it is fundamentally a romantic show. Consequently, fans were eager to discover who Otis would select as his girlfriend in the series finale - Maeve or Ruby?
Well, both the Motis and Rotis fandoms were very disappointed by the finale, as Otis chose neither of them, preferring to look for a perfect girlfriend elsewhere. Unfortunately, both the Motis and Rotis fandoms were left sorely disappointed by the finale, as Otis chose neither, opting to seek his ideal girlfriend elsewhere. While this conclusion makes perfect sense in the real world, fans didn't watch Sex Education for its realism, so this perceived betrayal by the writers ultimately caused the show's ratings on Rotten Tomatoes to take a nosedive.
