A teenage love story in the best tradition of 2000s soap operas.

The finale of After, one of the most significant teen franchises of recent years, has opened up a niche in the genre that, as we know, never stays empty for long.

Adaptations of young adult novels have flooded streaming services and the big screen, and the secret to success is simple: behind every bestseller there is an audience of devoted readers, preventing the movie from getting lost at the box office.

Mercedes Ron's teenage trilogy Culpables did not wait long for recognition – just one year after the first book was published on the Wattpad platform, the adaptation rights were purchased by Amazon Prime Video.

The first was My Fault, and that was followed by Your Fault, which came out just recently.

What Was My Fault About?

In My Fault, 17-year-old Noah moves to a small Spanish town. Her mother has married a local businessman who has a 22-year-old son, Nick.

Noah and Nick's relationship quickly develops into a teenage crush that brings with it gossip, discord, fights and injuries. Noah and Nick are two people with fiery temperaments who find it difficult to come to terms with each other's differences.

Nevertheless, the intricate plot of My Fault was able to unite the characters against numerous common enemies: the movie found room for action with adrenaline races, a drama about a painful past, and even a tense thriller with a maniacal father.

What Is Your Fault About?

In Your Fault, a year has passed since the events of the first movie. The couple's fragile happiness is shattered when their parents find out about their secret affair. No one wants them together.

The family does everything in their power to keep the two apart – they use fake brides and manipulation. The parents, who had been the closest of all, show their dark sides.

In addition, Nick quickly loses trust in the girl when she goes to college. The situation is made worse by a mentally unstable ex who dreams of ruining Nick's life. The man's biological mother, who abandoned him in early childhood, also appears in the movie.

Your Fault Is Reminiscent of 2000s Soap Operas

There are so many events happening in Your Fault that your head will spin and the screen will burst from the level of passion that is happening. Unlike most teen melodramas, Your Fault seems to have no boundaries.

Every minute on screen, intrigues are being woven, scandals flare up, betrayals are being committed.

Both films have the aesthetics of the TV soap operas that were popular in the 2000s. People have a massive need for intense romantic experiences, which are not particularly plentiful in real life. Watching Your Fault while waiting for the new part of After is a justified guilty pleasure.
