Just How Big is Walking Dead: Dead City Budget per Episode?

After two of AMC's biggest shows, The Walking Dead and Better Call Saul, came to an end, the producers were tasked with making their network profitable again, and it looks like they decided to bet big on Walking Dead: Dead City, shelling out a huge load of money to make the six-episode series look as great as possible.

So what is Dead City's budget per episode?

In the last few seasons of The Walking Dead, AMC was spending around three million per episode, which may sound like a lot of money, but it obviously wasn't enough, as fans were complaining about how cheap the show looked for years before it ended. Now, it seems that the producers understood fans' disappointment, agreeing to sacrifice a ton of money on the series' new installment, Dead City.

While the confirmed budget has not been revealed by AMC, it's rumored that the network spent a whopping $12 million per episode to bring Negan and Maggie's story to life. While this may seem like a bit of an overkill for a series like this, fans loved the end result and applauded the show for looking great, as every penny was seemingly spent on production and not the actors' fees.

'The visuals in the daytime are awesome, the 12M per episode budget is showing. The new Hilltop settlement looks great, seeing someone from the main show would have been icing on the cake but I'm sure they're saving that for a future season,' one fan said.

Although some fans argued that this number could not be real, since AMC has never been known to spend so much money on its series, it looks like the majority is willing to believe the rumors. Ultimately, The Walking Dead: Dead City can well become the new flagship show the network so desperately needs.

'AMC wouldn't have shelled out that amount of money had they not been in possession of some internal numbers that would have justified it. I don't know how the exact streaming numbers look these days, but TWD in general have always been pulling in some pretty darn good figures,' a fan argued.

The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 1 Episode 3 will arrive on AMC on June 29, 2023.
