Lots of people want to see the singer destroyed after The Idol.

Before appearing on HBO's The Idol as sleazy cult leader Tedros, Abel 'The Weeknd' Tesfaye was considered one of the most popular entertainers in the world, boasting an impeccable reputation and an impressive back catalog of iconic hits. However, after the audience saw him in Sam Levinson's controversial show, which many hated for insane levels of nudity and violent content, many people began derating the singer, trying to undermine his status and career.

Earlier this month, some people began sharing a video of 16-year-old Abel doing an exaggerated Latino accent and joking about jumping the border. In the clip, the star makes a pretty offensive caricature of Latinos, and there's no doubt The Weeknd should be ashamed of his stupid and inappropriate antics now.

However, the fact that some Internet users are trying to cancel the 33-year-old singer over something he did 15 years ago isn't just weird, it's pathetic.

Obviously, The Weeknd's haters are just so desperate to cancel the star after his performance on The Idol that they are using his teenage mistakes as a reason to take away his career. It seems that these people don't understand that The Weeknd was only playing the role of the abusive cult leader, which doesn't mean that his real-life persona is anything similar to that.

'I understand it may be offensive to some but this was a very long time ago. He's done many kind things over the years that shouldn't be overlooked just because of some video he made when he was 16,' one fan pointed out. 'Many people act like they were perfect at 16, never slipping up or making a mistake. It's called going through life and Abel is a human just like the rest of us.'

In any case, it looks like The Weeknd is not going anywhere because of this old video, which is not a solid enough reason to cancel the artist. Even though his recent project on HBO was a flop, the singer is already starring in a new movie directed by Trey Edward Shults, in which he will appear alongside Barry Keoghan and Wednesday's Jenna Ortega.
