Jacob Elordi Was Asked About James Bond and Said He's "Here on Holiday"
The world premiere of Ridley Scott's The Dog Stars happened Thursday night at the Odeon Luxe in Leicester Square, and the screaming from the crowd outside was, by all accounts, considerable.
Elordi walked the carpet in Bottega Veneta alongside Josh Brolin, Margaret Qualley, Guy Pearce and Benedict Wong, plus Scott himself, who premiered Gladiator II in the same building less than two years ago. Also present: Rak Jasper, one of three dogs who appear in the film, who posed with Elordi and, per every outlet in attendance, out-charmed the entire cast.
The Bond question
With casting for the next Bond underway and Elordi persistently near the top of every fan list, Variety asked whether he'd been auditioning.
His answer: he's here on holiday. Smiling. Moving on.
That's a professional non-answer from someone who has clearly been coached, and it will be interpreted as confirmation by roughly the entire internet, which is what non-answers are for.
About the actual film
The Dog Stars adapts Peter Heller's 2012 novel. Elordi plays Hig, a former pilot living in an isolated homestead with a hardened ex-Marine, Bangley (Brolin), after a flu pandemic has all but wiped out humanity. A radio transmission sends him looking for whatever is left. Mark L. Smith wrote the screenplay. Allison Janney also stars.
Elordi described working with Scott as a dream and called him the king of movies, then described the approach as both extremely creative and extremely dangerous — and admitted that at one point he called his agent wanting out.
