Get Excited – or Don't: Here's Everything New on Disney+ in September 2023

September looks to be packed with all sorts of new series, documentaries, and its biggest film of the year.

With what seems like a relentless number of streaming options available, and the recent news of the platform’s price hike, Disney+ continues to deliver a monthly trickle of brand new content.

Tuesday, September 5

  • All Wet

  • Trolley Troubles

Two of Walt Disney’s original animated shorts from 1927, these drawn classics feature an original character Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. They are being added to Disney+ as part of Disney's 100th Anniversary celebration.

Wednesday, September 6

  • 9/11: One Day in America

The last episode of the six-part docuseries exploring the harrowing moments of September 11, 2001.

  • The Little Mermaid

The highly successful live-action remake of Disney classic is arriving in September only 4 months after its cinematic release. The film stars Halle Bailey, Jonah Hauer-King, Daveed Diggs, Javier Bardem, Melissa McCarthy, and Awkwafina as reimagined versions of the much-loved characters. As well as Alan Menken returning to compose new songs for the film alongside Lin-Manuel Miranda.

  • I Am Groot (Season 2)

The second series of adorable animated shorts featuring our favourite living tree Groot will be arriving. We’re excited to see what entertaining trouble he will get himself into this time.

Scheduled to premiere on August 23rd and continue through September, this new Star Wars spin-off series will tell the story of Anakin’s former Padawan, Ahsoka Tano. Rosario Dawson will be reprising the role, after guest starring as the character in The Mandalorian. Excitement for the series is high as fans are expecting good things from the continuing Mandoverse.

  • 2000s Greatest Tragedies (special)

From National Geographic, this documentary will explore some of the most turbulent disasters, both natural and man-made, over the 2000s.

  • The Barn Dance, Bone Trouble & Merbabies

These early animated Walt Disney shorts are some of the first of the Mickey Mouse film series.

  • Bin Laden's Hard Drive (special)

A special documentary revealing newly declassified groundbreaking information surrounding Osama bin Laden’s personal life.

  • George W. Bush: The 9-11 Interview (special)

A National Geographic documentary revealing exclusive first-person interviews with former president George W. Bush, in which he discusses his insights on the deadly terrorist attacks during 9/11.

  • Mickey's Kangaroo, Playful Pluto & Pluto Junior

Disney Animated shorts from the 1940s first featuring the classic Pluto character and his adventures with Mickey Mouse.

Wednesday, September 13

  • Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir

The original series that spawned the Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir franchise. This computer animated series tells the tales of two Parisian teenagers who transform into superheroes called Ladybug and Cat Noir.

  • Raven's Home (Season 6)

The ongoing sixth season of the family sitcom and spin-off of the original show That’s So Raven. This season promises to keep up with the show's usual high jinks, with Raven and the kids even heading to London.

  • Marvel's Spidey and his Amazing Friends (Season 2)

The latest Spider-Man animated series featuring Peter Parker and his other super powered friends. In this series, Spider-Man and friends are younger versions of their usual characters.

  • Marvel Studios' Assembled: The Making of the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Director James Gunn as well as the Guardian’s actors join a behind-the-scenes film showing the making of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The documentary reveals just how one of Marvel’s most popular franchises was made, as well as sharing some emotional moments between the cast and crew and they prepare to shoot the final moments of the trilogy.

  • Animals Up Close with Bertie Gregory

The renowned British wildlife filmmaker is back with another complete series of wildlife adventures from around the world. This multi-part docuseries discovers some of nature's most fascinating animals using state-of-the-art technology to capture them in their natural habitat.

Friday, September 15

  • Lang Lang Plays Disney

This specially filmed concert features the globally famous pianist Lang Lang performing Disney’s most popular songs, along with a fully equipped orchestra held in the Albert Hall.

  • Master & Apprentice: A Special Look at Ahsoka

Separate to Disney+ new Ahsoka series, this two episode featurette will dive into the developing relationships between the characters, both on-screen and off-screen.

Wednesday, September 20

  • The Ghost and Molly McGee (Season 2)

The second season of the fun animated supernatural comedy series. The show follows Molly and her ghost friend scratch as she navigates her new life in the town of Brighton. This season sees more of the pair's adventures continue as Scratch is made Chairman of the Ghost Council.

  • PJ Masks: Power Heroes (Season 1)

A brand new spinoff of the popular PJ Masks animated series, sees the group form a new crime fighting superhero team: The Power Heroes. The team will include the original PJ Masks, as well as some new superhero allies.

  • Marvel Studios’ Assembled: The Making of Secret Invasion

In-depth interviews and exclusive behind-the-scenes footage reveals how Marvel Studios’ Secret Invasion was created.

Wednesday, September 27

  • To Catch a Smuggler (Season 5)

The fifth season of National Geographic’s docuseries following the working lives of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers.

  • Pupstruction: Season 1 (Season 1)

A brand new animated series, The Pupstruction crew are a group of construction dogs whose job it is to fulfil construction projects around their city of Petsburg.

Friday, September 29

  • Marvel Studios Legends - “Variants,” “TVA”

The continuing featurettes of Marvel's greatest characters see two new episodes focussing on the characters of the Loki series. These two episodes will recap the current existence of variants and the Time Variance Authority.

  • Disney's Launchpad (Season 2)

The second season of Disney Plus’s Launchpad, supporting new and upcoming talented filmmakers, will host six writers, five directors and one writer-director, who will each be contributing to six short films based on the theme of ‘connection’.
