5 Famous Actors Who Slammed the Movies They've Starred In
Although these roles brought the actors fame and money, they cannot stand them at all.
Harrison Ford's long-standing distaste for his legendary role as Han Solo in the original Star Wars trilogy is a case in point. His contempt for the character ran so deep that he requested to be written out of the franchise in Disney's sequels.
However, Ford is far from the only actor to loathe an iconic role that made them famous. Below is a list of Hollywood stars who totally hated the movies they starred in.
5. Michelle Pfeiffer
Appearing in Grease 2, the sequel to the very popular musical Grease, was a huge boost to Pfeiffer's career, but the star disliked the movie practically as much as if not more than, the audience.
According to her, the anticipation surrounding the film, owing to the success of its predecessor, weighed heavily on the cast, who knew there was no way the sequel could measure up.
4. George Clooney
Although the first three entries in Burton and Schumacher's Batman tetralogy saw commercial success, the third bombed at the box office. Unfortunately, George Clooney, who replaced Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne, was caught up in this downturn.
He felt that the film's script and his performance were subpar, teaching him the hard lesson that choosing roles for financial gain alone was a misguided approach, even if your superhero costume has nipples.
3. Halle Berry
A similar debacle befell the 2004 adaptation of the DC character Catwoman's origin story. The film was so poorly received it got four Golden Raspberries. Berry herself, in a surprising twist, showed up at the ceremony and 'thanked' the creators for the setback in her career. She admitted the film's quality was horrendous and even voiced her desire to remake it, given the opportunity.
2. Robert Pattinson
Robert Pattinson harbours a profound dislike for his breakout role as Edward in Twilight. Pattinson had read the books before taking on the role and found them unappealing, concluding they were little more than Stephanie Meyer's odd erotic fantasies where she identified with Bella.
This distaste deepened upon reading the script and remained with him throughout the franchise's run.
1. Russell Crowe
The epic film Gladiator launched both Joaquin Phoenix and Russell Crowe into superstardom. However, Crowe had a deep disdain for the script.
'At the core of what we were doing was a great concept, but the script was absolute rubbish. It had all sorts of strange sequences,' he said.
Eventually, he and director Ridley Scott reached a compromise, leading to some good memories for Crowe, but only after several scenes were altered to accommodate the actor's demands.
