Zero Chemistry Makes Blue Bloods' Jamie & Eddie Scenes Painful to Watch
Fans didn't appreciate the way the writers developed Jamie and Eddie's relationship.
CBS' Blue Bloods unexpectedly became one of the most popular procedural series, focusing more on the intimate family relationships of the NYPD dynasty, the Reagans, rather than on weekly crime investigations. And viewers love this winning formula, praising the show for the great writing and perfect chemistry between most of its characters.
However, it looks like one particular romantic pairing hasn't been really working for quite some time.
Jamie Reagan and Eddie Janko-Reagan married in season nine after hiding their feelings for each other for a while, and fans were eager to see their chemistry develop in the seasons to come.
But unfortunately, the characters' relationship stagnated immediately after their wedding, and ever since then, fans have been lambasting the writers for refusing to give Jamie and Eddie decent storylines that would allow them to build that chemistry.
While Jamie clearly respects Eddie as a police officer and often compliments her on her investigative skills, he never really treats her as his wife, which bothers fans. Their whole relationship seems forced, and the scenes featuring them off the job are painful to watch, as the spouses look and act as if they don't really know each other and have nothing to talk about besides their jobs.
Many fans don't see Jamie and Eddie as lovers at all since all their interactions resemble friendship rather than passion. Jamie shows no interest in his wife, and he often refuses to initiate physical contact, which makes viewers feel really bad for Eddie, who's apparently stuck in a loveless marriage.
However, the show's creators seem to pay no attention to these problems and continue to portray the characters as a happy couple, despite all evidence to the contrary. Viewers claim they would love to see the spouses fight and Eddie stand up for herself, but the writers simply refuse to write that storyline for no apparent reason.
All in all, it looks like the Blue Bloods writers need to fix this relationship soon because the fans' patience is running out. People argue that even the idea of Jamie and Eddie splitting up for good is better than the current state of their marriage.
