Fans are not so enthusiastic about the last seasons of the show.

The Big Bang Theory was one of the most popular sitcoms of its era, so it was only natural that CBS decided to capitalize on the series' iconic status and produce a spin-off based on Sheldon Cooper and his family.

But while the early seasons of the prequel felt just as cozy as the original, things began to spiral out of control by Season 5, leaving fans to wonder what went wrong with the overall vibe of the show.

The thing is, about two seasons ago, Young Sheldon began to feel much darker than ever before, with some storylines, especially those involving Sheldon's parents, getting way too depressing for a comedy show. While TBBT viewers always knew that Sheldon's upbringing wasn't ideal, they still have a hard time understanding why the producers decided to put so much focus on domestic issues and other painful topics.

'We all knew it was bound to happen, but still it got really depressing [all of a sudden] during the last two seasons. Seeing Mary's social life get ruined and her marriage crippling is heartbreaking. And because of this, the whole Sheldon arc, which is totally unrelated to what is going on with the rest of the family, just feels like nothing more than an interruption. But I don't think I'm ready for George's possible death in the upcoming season, should it be the last season of the series,' one Redditor summed up, echoing the sentiment of the fandom.

It seems that people are tired of the writers using the Coopers' problems as the main narrative force in the show's most recent seasons. Fans would like the upcoming chapter to feel more like the earlier ones, bringing in more lighthearted humor and the cozy 1990s vibe that made Young Sheldon such a beloved project.

However, with the death of Sheldon's father looming over the family, it looks like the upcoming Season 7 won't live up to the fans' expectations. We can still hope that the writers will find a way to end the show on an uplifting note — otherwise, Young Sheldon risks being rebranded as a drama series.
