The popular show will be returning later than expected.

Although Netflix's Young Royals may not be the biggest hit in the streaming giant's library, this Swedish LGBTQ+ romance has attracted a devoted following in the years since its premiere. Thousands of people are eagerly looking forward to seeing Prince Willie and Simon return to the small screen. Fans had hoped that Netflix would premiere the upcoming Season 3 by the end of this year, but the recently released first look has dashed those hopes as it contains information about when the streaming giant plans to release the new season.

In the one-minute segment posted on Netflix's official YouTube page, fans were treated to a glimpse of Simon and Willie at their most tender, subtly flirting in a royal palace. This brief first look didn't reveal any spoilers, but it sent shockwaves through the fandom as it confirmed that Season 3 will only premiere sometime in 2024.

Sheer Torture

While fans were thrilled to see Willie and Simon again, many were upset that the show won't be returning this year. Hopes of binge-watching the upcoming season around Christmas were at an all-time high before the first look video got dropped on YouTube.

Some fans even labeled the announcement sheer torture, as Netflix seemingly sentenced them to a long wait just seconds after giving them hope of seeing Young Royals in 2023.

Not So Bad

However, while waiting for your favorite show can be quite excruciating, it seems that Netflix plans to soften the blow for Young Royals fans by sharing weekly sneak peeks, interviews, and vignettes. That will surely help many people cope with the wait over the coming months.

Netflix is known for investing heavily in promoting its shows, and it appears that Young Royals will receive the same treatment as One Piece and Heartstopper did earlier this year.

Let's hope the quality of the season itself matches its marketing campaign, as fans have high expectations for the third installment of their favorite LGBTQ+ romance.
