Young Royals Fan Theory Predicts Season 3's 2024 Release Date
The hit show may return later than expected.
Since 2021, millions of fans have been in love with Netflix's Young Royals, a Swedish series that follows the romance between a fictional Prince Willie and student Simon Eriksson. The Young Royals story is as funny as it is thought-provoking, and its popularity has paved the way for other LGBTQ+ series to find their audience.
However, fans have been waiting for the third season of the romantic saga for quite some time, and there is evidence to suggest Netflix may be delaying the release quite drastically.
Filming is Already Over
While no news about the third season has been released by Netflix, it was confirmed that the filming was wrapped up in late June, which suggests the show is already in post-production.
Sadly, that does not mean it will premiere anytime soon. Young Royals Season 2 arrived on the streaming service half a year after filming, and many people think Netflix's producers will not premiere the show during their busiest months.
'S3 production wrapped June 28th 2023. So, six months later would be Dec 28, 2023. But there's no way Netflix will be dropping this lower-budget niche market series in the very busy big-star, major-budget Nov/Dec Christmas season period!' a fan pointed out.
If that theory is correct, it looks like fans will have to wait until early 2024 to finally see Willie and Simon back on their screens. Given that the show is in no way affected by the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, it's safe to say that the streaming service won't delay it any longer than that.
Fans are Willing to Wait
In any case, Young Royals fans are actually okay with waiting a bit, as the upcoming fall season is already proving to be quite packed. However, Netflix's reluctance to share any material regarding Season 3 makes people a bit uneasy. Sharing a couple of stills or even BTS footage is not that hard for the streaming giant, and fans would appreciate that a lot.
'I don't assume it's unreasonable for Netflix to give us some updates. I'm not saying the show should be released today, but filming finished a while ago and I don't think it's unreasonable for enough from the show to be finished to give us some kind of update,' a disappointed fan said.
