Yep, They Really Went There: Riverdale Just Dropped the Foursome Bomb

After seven seasons on the air, The CW's Riverdale finally came to an end, allowing fans and cast alike to move on with their lives without Archie, Jughead, or Betty. But even though the last few seasons have been a huge disappointment to viewers who thought the writers really screwed up the original story and turned it into a supernatural soap opera, the finale actually proved to be quite rewarding.

Instead of wrapping things up with one big event, the creators decided to follow the lives of most of the characters into their old age, and the audience appreciated the unusual way to say goodbye to their favorites.

While it was heartwarming to learn that Mary and Brooke stayed together as a romantic couple until their eventual deaths, fans were much more interested in the main love triangle between Archie, Betty, and Veronica. People were concerned about who the main hero of the story would end up with after Jughead joined the triangle and started dating Betty for some reason.

The situation was as complex as they come, and it looks like the writers chose one of the most controversial methods to put an end to the debate.

While Betty was confining herself to Reggie in the finale, she revealed that she and the rest of the love triangle had been enjoying a foursome for quite some time. Betty noted that she was sleeping with Archie, Jughead, and Veronica at that moment in their relationships.

Although it wasn't made clear whether the four were actually enjoying themselves together or just splitting up, fans don't really care, accusing series creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa of queer baiting and coming up with the worst possible way to end the storylines.

'I knew they only did Vughead so they could do this stupid foursome thing. RAS — you are such a coward. I would rather they were all single or something, then telling me all of these people who have never claimed to want polyamory all of sudden want to do that in the 50s,' a disappointed Redditor shared after watching the finale.
