Fans Desperate for a Season 5 Return.

Yellowstone keeps stalling and stalling and stalling. The first half of season five wrapped up at the beginning of the year with plans to resume new episodes in the summer of 2023.

However, with that date rapidly approaching and the cast and crew yet to resume shooting for season five - the anticipated release date has obviously been delayed. But for how long?

There are many Yellowstone stars that have preferred to stay silent on the subject, including Taylor Sheridan and Kevin Costner, the two individuals rumored to be causing all the strife in the first place. On the other hand, some co-stars like Lainey Wilson and Cole Hauser have recently shared their thoughts. Still, nothing has ultimately been decided leaving many fans upset and frustrated.

Season 5 of Yellowstone on Permanent Hiatus

Rewind back to November 2022 and all was well on the set of Yellowstone. The fifth season had just premiered to much hype and stellar ratings. Kevin Costner, in the next few months, would go on to win his first major award from the TV franchise. Then, February 2023 happened.

Shortly after the conclusion of the mid-season finale, rumors began to circulate that Costner was beefing with the Yellowstone showrunner over the future direction of the show, including the number of days Costner would be obligated to be on set. Unfortunately, this provoked a wave of activity that has yet to get resolved leaving a shadow of doubt lingering over the remainder of season five.

Season 5 Return of Costner Doubtful, Co-Star Speculates

So, when does the second part of Yellowstone season five return? The TV executives have yet to respond with a clear indication and most cast members relay that they are also in the dark.

Nevertheless, Ian Bohen (who plays cowboy Ryan in Yellowstone) recently told TV Insider that the second part of season five will be filmed.

'100 percent it’s happening,' Bohen said. 'We are shooting in May. I don’t think that’s a secret at all. We are starting Season 5 and I would be completely astounded if we didn’t shoot 6. And I’d say that there’s a fair chance we might shoot a seventh season.”

The good news is Bohen's assessment fits a social media photo that Cole Hauser recently posted on Instagram, in support of the upcoming new episodes of season five. However, none of this also indicates that Costner is slated to return to Yellowstone.

What is already known is that Matthew McConaughey has been confirmed for an upcoming Yellowstone spin-off, leading many to believe that Sheridan may attempt to wrap up Yellowstone by season five or six (and likely without the talents of Costner). Costner, meanwhile, is moving forward with his own upcoming western - the anticipated Horizon four-part epic.
