Will There Be a Time Skip in Young Royals Season 3?

Though not many people have heard of it, Netflix's Young Royals has been racking up big numbers over the past few years with fans instantly invested in the LGBTQ+ story that follows Swedish prince Willie as he falls in love with his college friend Simon. The show proved to be equally uplifting and heartbreaking, and audiences loved the mix, naming Young Royals one of the best romantic shows out there.

Although Netflix has refused to release any stills or trailers from the upcoming third season, fans are sure that Willie and Simon will be back sometime this year and expect the next installment to be even more exciting than the last two.

Time jump needed

While fans eagerly await the release of the third season, they decided to think about the possibility of the writers using a time jump in the next installment, and it actually makes sense.

The college setting of the show began to feel a bit limiting in the last season, and we are ready to see Willie and Simon outside of Hillerska, as the school storyline really prevents Willie's status as a prince from serving as anything more than an interesting detail.

'I think it would be nice if they did a time skip to Wille and Simon’s graduation. It would be a great way to show that even in the toughest times of adversity at Hillerska, they pulled through and survived their years there,' a fan said.

Not so simple

While the idea of a time jump certainly appeals to the vast majority of the Young Royals fandom, some viewers argue that Season 2 set up a lot of storylines that need to be resolved as soon as possible, and a time jump would simply waste them all. That's why the writers will probably start Season 3 right after Season 2 ends.

'At some point yes, but maybe only near the end. I had thought that if Lisa's ending was some sort of progressive new version of the monarchy, they may want to have an older future king in a queer relationship, maybe even already married. But there are all the issues to be solved after the speech, which can't wait one year... Then after they graduate, Wille has to do military service and whatever else, they wouldn't show those years I think,' one fan noted.
