Fans wonder if Ned Stark's ancestors will be featured in the spin-off.

While the houses of Targaryen or Lannister were perhaps the most exciting to follow in the original Game of Thrones series, members of the Stark clan were equally important to the plot, with characters like Ned, Jon Snow, Sansa, and Arya being the main protagonists.

Naturally, viewers also expected to see the Starks in the spin-off House of the Dragon, set two hundred years before the original story, but they were never featured in the first season, leaving fans to wonder if the Northern House would ever appear on the show.

Those fears are unfounded, however, as it has been officially confirmed that the Starks will play a major role in the upcoming second season. The powerful clan will undoubtedly take part in the Dance of the Dragons, a civil war that pitted two branches of House Targaryen against each other.

According to George R. R. Martin's book, Cregan Stark, the head of House Stark at the time, played an important role in the civil war, siding with Rhaenyra and the Blacks against Otto Hightower and the Greens. This means we can expect the character to be introduced in the next season, and fans are wondering which actor would be the best fit for the famous warrior and strategist.

While discussing the perfect actor for the role online, fans were quick to agree that seeing Sean Bean play the ancestor of his own character from the original series would be a total blast. Such a tongue-in-cheek move would be both hilarious and realistic, as Ned and Cregan are related by blood. There is just one problem viewers seem to have with this casting choice — Bean is way too old for the part!

'Cregan Stark is like 21, I think. With Sean Bean, it would be very much a "how do you do fellow kids?" deal,' one fan noted.

It looks like HBO will need to look elsewhere for the right actor to play the new character. The success of the upcoming Season 2 depends in large part on the casting decision, as fans expect Cregan to be portrayed by someone worthy of all the great actors who played the Starks in the original series.
