Will Outer Banks Season 4 Filming Be Affected by the 2023 WGA Strike?
It looks like the beloved show will start filming much later than expected.
All of Hollywood is in turmoil right now, as the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike derails the production of dozens of movies and TV series.
Writers are demanding fair compensation for their services, as the rise of streaming has driven up the cost of projects to unprecedented levels, while their salaries have remained the same as a decade ago.
While the union is trying to get this issue fixed, a whole bunch of shows are left in limbo. But will Outer Banks be affected too?
Filming for the upcoming fourth season is scheduled to begin later this month, which can only mean one thing — the scripts for each episode are already finished. This has led many fans to believe Outer Banks won't be affected by the strike at all, but there is no certainty about this issue yet. While Netflix hasn't announced the production dates will be pushed, filming the series without the writers on board may be challenging, if not impossible.
'Since they were going to start filming this month, I assume the scripts were pretty finalized but writers are also needed on a continuing basis during filming, which they won't have during the strike. I also don't see a showrunner who is also a writer signing off on any production until this is resolved,' one fan pointed out.
Obviously, the news of the indefinite postponement of the fourth season is quite upsetting for fans of the mysterious teen drama. However, some are actually quite fine with waiting a bit longer, hoping that the writers will be able to perfect the scripts after the strike so as not to repeat the mistakes of the previous season.
'Would've thought the writers were already on strike given how shallow Season 3 was,' one fan joked.
All in all, it looks like the Season 4's production will be affected by the writers' strike, and the release date will likely be postponed. Everyone is hoping that the WGA will soon reach an agreement with the studios, ensuring that writers are properly paid for their job and setting off all the shows and movies that are currently on pause.
