Why Outlander Fans Hated the New Season 7 Theme Song So Much?
It didn't take fans long to get disappointed with the new season.
Many viewers found Outlander's Season 6 rather unsatisfying, making the beloved story feel more like a cheap soap opera rather than the high-octane thriller it once used to be. Still, lots of people were keen to continue watching the series in Season 7, especially since Starz marketed the new installment as a true return to form.
But while the producers were boasting huge budgets and an expansive storyline as the best thing to happen to Outlander since the outstanding Season 1, many fans still hated the new installment the moment they saw the opening sequence. Why? That's because Outlander's iconic opening theme 'Skye Boat Song' was turned into a joke in Season 7.
Prior to the current season, Outlander's opening theme song was considered simply great, with singers Raya Yarbrough and Griogair Labhruidh lending their majestic voices to capture the show's mood perfectly. But in Season 7, the producers decided to elevate every aspect of the project by inviting the iconic Sinéad O'Connor to sing a rendition of the show's theme song.
Sinéad O'Connor is widely recognized as a legend in the music industry, but fans still claim that the original version of the song was already perfect and her rendition didn't work well in Outlander's new season. It appears that the producers simply wanted to make the show look more expensive with O'Connor singing in the opening sequence, but that change was completely unnecessary.
And in fact, people also disliked Sinéad's singing, noting that she was just trying to make her rendition stand out, but she didn't really care about the song, its meaning, or even the project itself.
'As I was listening to it all I was thinking that this sounds like someone who is just trying to show off their vocal skills/the things they can do with their voice. Wish she had focused on making the song sound good rather than putting her mark on it,' one fan said.
