Why Oscar Isaac Is Steering Clear of Disney — And You Might Agree
Oscar Isaac is hitting pause on any Marvel or Star Wars comeback, keeping Disney at arm’s length amid recent controversy—though he isn’t closing the door on a future return.
Oscar Isaac says he is not done with Star Wars or Marvel in theory. In practice? Right now he is not in a hurry to work with Disney. Here is why, and what it means for Poe Dameron and Moon Knight.
What set him off
In a new GQ interview conducted two days after Disney suspended Jimmy Kimmel over on-air remarks involving Charlie Kirk and talk of violence, Isaac made it clear he was unhappy with the company. The Kimmel situation has been messy and loudly debated, and Isaac did not tiptoe around how he felt in the moment.
"Yeah. I mean, I would be open to it, although right now I am not so open to working with Disney. But if they can kind of figure it out and, you know, not succumb to fascism, that would be great."
He added that if things change, he would be willing to talk about returning to that galaxy far, far away — or other projects under the same umbrella.
Where he stands on coming back
Short version: He is not slamming the door. He is just not walking through it today. The GQ chat was very much colored by the Kimmel suspension timeline. If Disney cools the temperature and, as he put it, figures it out, he is open to a conversation.
The Disney roles that matter here
- Star Wars: Poe Dameron in The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, and The Rise of Skywalker.
- Marvel/Disney+: Steven Grant in Moon Knight. He has said he would like to do more, but the show has not been renewed for a second season.
About that old 'another house' comment
Back in 2020, at a Deadline panel, Isaac joked he would only come back as Poe if he needed another house. In the GQ interview, he basically walked that back, saying it was one of those things you blurt out during a panel and immediately regret. His summary of it was not exactly gentle toward himself, and the point was clear: he is not staking his entire Star Wars future on a flippant one-liner from years ago.
So, what happens now?
Do not expect a surprise Poe cameo or a Moon Knight season 2 announcement tomorrow. Isaac is leaving the door cracked, but his willingness to step through it depends on Disney smoothing out the current mess he is reacting to. If and when that happens, he sounds game to talk Star Wars, Marvel, or, as he put it, any number of other things.
