Fans are wondering if Christopher Meloni's Organized Crime will end after the upcoming short season.

Dick Wolf's Law & Order is the most successful crime drama franchise in history, spawning several beloved series and continuing to draw insane ratings even after more than 30 years on the air.

But even though SVU is doing better than ever and just recently received a 22-episode renewal for Season 25, its spin-off Organized Crime, starring Christopher Meloni as Detective Elliot Stabler, looks to be in a bit of trouble next year.

It was recently announced that instead of a full 22-episode Season 4, Organized Crime will only get 13 episodes to prove its worth. While this sounds alarming because shorter seasons almost always indicate that the network is planning to end a series, fans are not yet concerned, as the show's producers have managed to sweeten the pill quite a bit.

According to a TVLine source, the show's creators have a special plan for Season 4, which will be best implemented in the shorter season.

While no clarifications have been issued on what kind of plan the producers have in mind, fans suspect that Organized Crime may move away from its procedural format towards a main storyline, just like Criminal Minds did over at Paramount+.

While the idea sounds really exciting to many, some people are still afraid that Meloni's show could be canceled even with a respectable rating, considering that the production process has been an absolute nightmare for NBC.

During the series' three-season run, five showrunners left its production, resulting in a total anti-record for the network.

While some of them, like Sean Jablonski, quit the project due to creative differences, others were simply asked to leave by the show's main producers, which probably made the process of working on the set of Organized Crime a total ordeal.

Perhaps NBC is just tired of this behind-the-scenes nonsense and is ready to pull the plug on the show if the situation is not resolved during the production of the upcoming short season.

Law & Order: Organized Crime Season 3 Episode 19 will arrive on NBC on April 27, 2023.
