It seems that the producers of American Idol have decided to change one significant aspect of their hit show.

Every American Idol fan fondly recalls the excitement of watching auditions back in the day, as some singers who took the stage before the judges were hilariously bad. Everyone enjoyed this, as watching hapless wannabes having epic fails in public offered a refreshing change of pace in the early stages of the competition.

The judges also had a great time critiquing those contestants for their lack of skill. So why has American Idol stopped featuring bad singers, and what role does The Voice play in this change?

While discussing this issue on Reddit, fans agreed that the immense popularity of The Voice prompted the producers of American Idol to rethink their strategy. The Voice exclusively showcases exceptional singers capable of delivering superb performances that often elicit praise rather than criticism from the judges. As a result, the show has gained immense popularity and is watched by millions daily.

It appears that the producers of American Idol decided to copy their competition and stop airing really bad auditions.

'The Voice only shows singers that are genuinely good and the coaches don't really comment on them 'having the look' like AI,' a fan said.

Additionally, when ABC decided to hire big-name stars as judges, such as Jennifer Lopez, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan, it became clear that having these celebrities poke fun at the contestants would be rather bad taste.

While Randy Jackson and Simon Cowell were infamous for their constant jibes at subpar singers, it was a perfect fit for their personalities, and they never ran the risk of getting pilloried by the audiences for that.

Thus, it looks like the era of really bad auditions is fading into the past. The current iteration of American Idol focuses more on showcasing genuine talent rather than ridiculing poor performers, as it once did.

American Idol Season 21 Episode 15 will premiere on ABC on 30 April 2023.
