The fans hate the show, and for good reason.

Jenny Han's To All The Boys I Loved Before became a huge hit in 2014, prompting Hollywood to take a closer look at the young adult romance novel and snatch up the rights to turn the original story into a full-fledged franchise.

In the following few years, Netflix released three movies centered around high school junior Lara Jean Covey, but fans wanted more, so the streaming giant quickly ordered a spin-off series following Kitty Song Covey, once played by Anna Cathcart.

XO, Kitty premiered earlier last month and scored a whopping 180 million viewing hours, cementing Netflix's determination to extend the story into a second season. But despite those great viewership numbers, there are plenty of people who hated the show for a number of reasons.

First of all, fans really dislike Kitty becoming the star of her solo show, arguing that her personality is simply too obnoxious to make viewers care about her. Anna Cathcart is a fine actress, but people would rather see some of the other To All The Boys characters get their own spin-off series.

'I couldn't get past the first episode. I don't recall Kitty being as grating in TATB but she wasn't the main character so maybe that's why,' one fan pointed out.

Another reason why people hated XO, Kitty probably has to do with the audience itself, rather than the show or the characters. The story follows Kitty as she travels to Korea to reconnect with her long-distance boyfriend, so the show relies heavily on K-drama tropes and is generally aimed at people who love all things Korean.

That is why XO, Kitty alienates a large portion of To All The Boys' fandom, as most people may not be particularly interested in Korean culture or have the necessary prior knowledge to appreciate K-drama references.

All in all, fans of the original books and movies are disappointed that Netflix decided to turn the whole franchise around and move a character to Korea instead of keeping the action in the same place. But on the other hand, just judging by those viewership numbers, it looks like the new show has attracted lots of new fans to the project, and those people will likely return to see XO, Kitty Season 2.
