This could be a weird coincidence, satire, or a nod to the most popular supernatural coming-of-age show of 2022.

Did you think for a moment that Gen V's character Emma Meyer, aka Little Cricket, was played by Emma Myers, the actress who portrayed Wednesday's colorful werewolf roommate at Nevermore Academy? Well, you are not alone, and we understand why this might happen.

While Gen V's Emma Meyer is portrayed by a completely different actress, Lizze Broadway, the similarities between two characters and frankly two shows are uncanny.

Remarkable Resemblance

Think about it. An unconventional protagonist arrives at a new school and meets this overly friendly roommate, a likable blonde with short hair and an active social media life. While she seems like an easygoing, carefree character at first, viewers soon realize that her story is not so simple.

She has issues with using her superpowers that are buried deep in a lack of understanding and love from her parents. The protagonist and her roommate become close friends and help each other grow. As she overcomes her inner demons, the roommate reveals that she is more powerful than she knows.

What am I describing? Wednesday or Gen V?

This eerie likeness can be explained by one of three things.

Nod to Wednesday

The character of Emma Meyer could be a direct reference to Enid Sinclair from Wednesday, and it doesn't seem like a stretch.

However, unless Eric Kripke has telepathic powers or a spy in Netflix, the timeline of the two shows' production doesn't support this theory.

Weird Coincidence

The Boys spinoff was officially announced and began production before Wednesday hit Netflix and became the sensation of 2022. Not only that, but Lizze Broadway was cast for her role as the shrinking supe in 2021, along with star Jaz Sinclair, who plays protagonist Marie Moreau.

So any connection between Gen V and Wednesday can be nothing more than coincidence. But let's face it, when have the creators of The Boys ever done anything by accident?

Popular Trend Satire

This is the most likely reason for the striking similarity between the characters. Coming-of-age shows set in a supernatural academy are nothing new. And all the tropes, character types and plot lines have been known to filmmakers for a long time.

There's no doubt that when the creators of Gen V came up with the idea, they took every opportunity to poke fun at the trend and make the spinoff as satirical of the genre as possible. While for Wednesday, Enid's story is a genuine storytelling tool, for Gen V, Emma's arc is nothing short of a parody.

We can expect to see Emma break out of her stereotypical role in future episodes, which premiere on Prime Video every Thursday at 8pm ET.
