Why Blue Bloods Season 14 is Not Coming to CBS in September 2023

When Blue Bloods premiered on CBS back in 2010, everyone was sure that this police procedural would not last long, as prime time was already crowded with other shows like it. However, against all odds, the Tom Selleck starrer became a huge hit thanks to its focus on family values and chemistry between the leads, as fans became invested in the lives of the Reagan family members from the very beginning.

And more than a decade after the pilot premiered, Blue Bloods is still more than popular, with fans eagerly anticipating each season. However, it looks like CBS has decided to delay the release of the upcoming season 14, refusing to premiere it in September as usual. And here's why.

The strikes are to blame

With the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes still ongoing, it's no wonder that the network decided to delay the release of the upcoming episode, as it's simply impossible to produce a show without writers and actors on board. As of now, not even half of the upcoming season has been filmed, and considering that the actors can't even promote the show, it looks like CBS did the right thing.

But when will the new season arrive?

According to CBS' official release calendar, Blue Bloods Season 14 has been moved to midseason, which means that the show will return sometime between January and March 2024. Yes, that's a long time to wait, and fans are already upset about the impact of the strikes on Blue Bloods, but it's important to remember that the show's cast all support SAG and WGA's decision to strike.

Fewer episodes

Unfortunately, it looks like the delay will have an effect on the length of the season, as analysts are already predicting that Season 14 will be much shorter than the previous installments, as the network simply will not have time to shoot 20+ episodes by the end of spring.

And keep in mind that if the strikes continue, Blue Bloods could be pushed back even further, as there is still a lot of filming to be done.
