The popular show is in shambles after a controversial twist.

Hallmark's When Calls the Heart was one of the best melodramas on air for a good reason - the show about Elizabeth, a young woman from high society who moves to a small town in the Canadian frontier to become a teacher, was a perfect little project for fans to escape to, as the feel-good vibes and cozy atmosphere of a small town in the middle of nowhere forced people to invest in the story almost immediately.

That's why people are so pissed off with the current season 10, because the writers decided that Hope Valley needed some drama and shocked viewers with one of the most unnecessary and superficial love triangles television has ever seen.

The central romance ruined

For three full seasons, Elizabeth and Lucas planned their wedding, and the fans fully supported the couple. They looked great together, and the chemistry between the actors was off the charts. And then the writers decided to bring Nathan into the equation and have him vying for Elizabeth's attention.

Fans were afraid that Elizabeth would break up with Lucas to start over with Nathan, and that theory was sadly proven right in the last episode, when she refused to marry Lucas for the craziest reason ever.

The thing is, Lucas decided to run for governor and planned to move to Capitol City for four years to save Hope Valley from destruction. But Elizabeth decided to stay in the small town, not wanting to leave her comfort zone, even for the man she seems to love.

From melodrama to soap

Fans could not understand why the writers decided to portray Elizabeth in such a way, as this strong woman was never afraid to take risks. With the love triangle resolved in such a ridiculous manner, fans realized that When Calls the Heart could no longer be treated as a soul-comforting melodrama, as the writers turned it into the most banal soap opera in a matter of episodes.

It looks like people might stop watching the show after Season 10, even though the project has already been renewed for Season 11, and this ridiculous plot twist is to blame.

Will you continue to watch the show after Elizabeth and Lucas are gone?
