We Finally Know Who Mantis & Gargoyle Are, and Masked Singer Fans Are Losing It
Both Mantis and Gargoyle lost to Medusa last time, and the fans are not okay with that.
Fox's The Masked Singer is rightfully at the top of this year's reality singing competitions, providing fans with tons of entertainment while attracting huge stars to hide behind the intricately designed costumes, which makes the show a much more enjoyable experience to watch than current seasons of The Voice or American Idol.
However, The Masked Singer's judges are often lambasted by the fandom for some pretty strange decisions, and the recent Gargoyle vs. Medusa battle is sadly no exception.
But first, let's take a look at who was hiding behind Mantis and Gargoyle's masks. While Mantis was the first of the contestants to lose in this episode, the judges were still unable to guess the star's identity, picking Dennis Quaid, Kevin Bacon, and even Brendan Fraser as their top choices. However, the real person behind Mantis was actor and writer Lou Diamond Phillips, whom fans have been waiting to see for quite some time.
And while Phillips' departure from the competition was long overdue, as his vocal performance was not up to par with the other contestants, the fact that Gargoyle lost his Battle Royale round to Medusa seriously angered fans, who argued that Medusa's version of Fall Out Boy's 'Centuries' lacked emotion.
'Low key, she probably shouldn't have won this week. I'm not mad, she's good, I just feel like Gargoyle was better this week,' one fan said on Reddit.
And people's support for Gargoyle only intensified when the celebrity hiding behind the costume turned out to be none other than Keenan Allen of the Los Angeles Chargers, who the judges weren't really expecting to see. Fans were shocked that the superstar athlete had such a wonderful voice, but longtime followers of Allen were not really surprised, as he frequently shares his singing skills on social media.
While Medusa emerged victorious and will continue her appearances on The Masked Singer, Allen will still be remembered as the true winner of this battle, as fans are quite sure that the judges were biased against the athlete.
The Masked Singer Season 9 Episode 12 will arrive on Fox on May 3, 2023.
