The father's identity was finally revealed.

Netflix's Virgin River premiered in 2019 to incredible acclaim from fans and critics alike, who enjoyed the dramatic and heartwarming story of LA nurse Mel Monroe starting her life over in the titular small town. And even though the show was called one of the best melodramas out there, the project's quality has diminished with each new season, so fans started calling out the writers for trite plot twists, poor character development, and soap-opera-like revelations.

And while the recently released Season 5 was supposed to fix the aforementioned flaws, the writers decided to double down on the surprising revelations, making the new episode one of the most controversial yet exciting Virgin River installments yet.

Charmaine's Big Secret Revealed

Ever since the first season, viewers have been dying to know who the father of Charmaine's unborn twins is, and even though she revealed Jack as the father at one point, she was actually lying just to get her ex to be with her. When the truth came out, Jack left Charmaine for good and settled down with Mel.

After all that scandal, fans were even more excited to learn the identity of the twins' real father. Fortunately, the writers finally kept their promise in Season 5 — it turned out that Calvin, the dangerous criminal and head of a cannabis farm, was the father of Charmaine's children!

Needless to say, people were shocked by the plot twist and began to hate Charmaine even more for lying to Jack.

'Lying to the real father to say he wasn't the father is understandable. Lying to Jack and the whole town to say he is the father is manipulative and cruel,' a fan commented on Reddit, 'Besides, when Jack asked about the father, she didn't say he was dangerous or scary or a criminal or whatever. So, I don't buy that she did it to protect them from their father. She did it because it was a convenient way to get Jack back.'

If there's any takeaway from the whole situation, it looks like the writers have completely ruined Charmaine's character with her despicable actions.
