New series did not live up to players' expectations.

On October 10, the full season of the animated adventure series Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft was released on Netflix, continuing the storyline of the recent Tomb Raider trilogy of games from Crystal Dynamics, which rebooted the story of the iconic heroine.

The project was created by Powerhouse Animation Studios, which has been involved in the production of a number of other animated series for Netflix, including Castlevania and Blood of Zeus.

What Is Tomb Raider The Legend of Lara Croft About?

The plot returns us to the archaeologist and adventurer Lara Croft. She won a tense and fierce confrontation with the secret organization Trinity, shown in the Tomb Raider video game trilogy.

The heroine is worried about the death of her mentor and close family friend, Conrad Roth, but she must pull herself together when the world once again faces the threat of global catastrophe.

A mysterious stranger wants to get his hands on powerful stones that, according to legend, contain the excess of the greatest vices. By combining these artifacts, he will gain an incredible power of chaos that promises terrible consequences for humanity.

The Series Didn't Correct Any Mistakes Made in the Games

The trilogy of games from Crystal Dynamics, which rebooted the adventures of Lara Croft in 2013, has high-quality and entertaining gameplay – which holds the attention of players. At the same time, the games suffered from a number of obvious shortcomings in terms of plot, narrative, development of characters and sometimes even production.

Therefore, fans expected the Netflix animated series to work on the mistakes made by the creators of the Tomb Raider trilogy of games. Hopes were high, considering that Powerhouse Animation Studios has a history of high-quality projects.

Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft, however, immediately steps on the same toes as the creators of the game trilogy. It offers an ordinary adventure plot with a classic global threat hanging over the world and no exciting features.

The Legend of Lara Croft Requires You to Be Familiar With the Games' Plot

The visual component does not allow the series to fall into the absolute abyss of despondency. Good animation, even if it does not reach any particular heights, and good staging of action scenes allow the project to look at least decent for an adventure animation.

However, the new adventures of Lara Croft can only dream of the visual splendor of Castlevania or Arcane.

Those who have not completed the Tomb Raider trilogy of games, but want to watch the series, should first get acquainted with at least a short summary of the plot of the games. The writers literally throw viewers into the thick of things without any preparation.

The Legend of Lara Croft Is Nowhere Near Arcane or Castlevania

Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft was not able to correct even half of the shortcomings of the Tomb Raider trilogy of games.

This mediocre animated series will definitely not join such top video game adaptations from Netflix as Castlevania or Arcane, remaining on the ruins of the former greatness of the Tomb Raider franchise.
