Kevin Smith Confirms New Jay & Silent Bob Movie — Plot Details Tease a Wild Return
Jay & Silent Bob are heading back to the big screen. Kevin Smith confirms he’s at work on a new feature starring the Jersey duo and has teased the first plot details.
Kevin Smith is back to the View Askewniverse well, and yes, it involves the two loudest legends from Leonardo, New Jersey. Jay and Silent Bob are getting another movie, and Smith just let slip the title and the basic setup while out promoting something else entirely. Classic Kevin.
The new title and the hook
While doing press for the re-release of his 1999 comedy Dogma, Smith told Collider's Steve Weintraub that he is currently putting together a third Jay and Silent Bob movie called 'Jay and Silent Bob: Store Wars'. The premise spins out of Clerks III, where the duo ended up running their own weed shop after New Jersey legalized cannabis. In this one, a rival dispensary opens right across the street, and the whole thing turns into a petty, escalating turf battle with a very 'Spy vs. Spy' vibe. It is, by his own description, a stoner comedy through and through.
'Believe it or not, man, we still find financing for Jay and Silent Bob pictures... Store Wars is basically Spy vs. Spy... Another dispensary opens up across the street, and they spend the whole movie fighting and trying to destroy one another.'
What we know right now
- Title: 'Jay and Silent Bob: Store Wars'.
- Where he said it: during press for the Dogma re-release, in an interview with Collider's Steve Weintraub.
- Timeline in the universe: follows Clerks III, with Jay and Silent Bob now running a legal dispensary in New Jersey.
- Plot basics: a competing dispensary moves in across the street; chaos and sabotage ensue, played as a high-contrast duel.
- Status: still being put together; no release timing yet.
- Casting: in progress. Smith says the two main foils on the other side are younger and basically the duo's opposites in almost every way.
- Energy level: very high. Smith is eager to jump back in as Silent Bob, and Jason Mewes is, unsurprisingly, more than ready to slip back into Jay.
Where this fits
Smith calls this the third Jay and Silent Bob movie, and it tracks: after 'Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back' and 'Jay and Silent Bob Reboot', this one keeps the focus squarely on the two goofy best friends who somehow keep finding new reasons to yell at the world from a New Jersey sidewalk. He says the financing is there, the cast is coming together, and the tone is exactly what you think it is. In other words: if you know these characters, you already know if you are in.
