A major star might join the second season of the show.

Summary

  • Given the first season's success, One Piece can now cast almost any A-list star, and fans already have an ideal actress in mind.
  • For a while, fans have been dreaming of seeing Jamie Lee Curtis as Dr. Kureha, and it would appear that both the actress and the showrunner are keen to make it a reality.

When Netflix unveiled its intention to adapt the iconic Japanese manga One Piece into a live-action series, everyone from fans to critics was skeptical, thinking the streaming giant would turn the much-adored original property into a hot mess. To everyone's delight, Netflix dispelled those doubts and launched the first season of One Piece last month to widespread acclaim.

Yet, it was evident that both Netflix's producers and the broader acting community had reservations about the show's potential success. None of the first season's cast was a star before the show's debut. It seemed that top-tier actors were hesitant about committing to what could have been a doomed project, but the first season's outstanding reception instantly shifted that perspective.

Big Stars To Feature In Season 2

With Season 1 continuing to dominate Netflix's rankings nearly two months after its release on the platform, it's no surprise that some of Hollywood's elite are vying for roles in the forthcoming season. The new series is now in a place where it can help the career of any actor, even someone who's already a huge star.

Fans seem to have pinpointed the ideal A-list performer to join One Piece sooner rather than later. There have been unanimous calls to see Oscar laureate Jamie Lee Curtis as Dr. Kureha, a cherished character from the original manga.

This edgy, formidable character doesn't just really look like Curtis in the original anime, but the character is very much reminiscent of Curtis's iconic role in Halloween. Thus, fans' eagerness for this dream casting is perfectly understandable.

Curtis Might Be Onboard

While such dream castings often remain wishful thinking, this one might defy the odds. Curtis surprisingly hinted on her Instagram that she's open to playing Dr. Kureha.

The fan community was ecstatic at seeing Curtis's post, and the excitement amplified when One Piece's showrunner, Matt Owens, indicated his eagerness to cast Curtis for Season 2, contingent on her availability after the SAG-AFTRA strike.

Fingers crossed!
