This A-Lister Made a Cameo in Heartstopper Season 2, but Nobody Noticed
Fans were surprised to discover that this star was actually on the show.
Netflix's Heartstopper proved to be one of the biggest shows of 2022, catapulting its two main stars, Kit Connor and Joe Locke, to A-list status virtually overnight. With impressive ratings and a dedicated fanbase, it was clear that the second season of Heartstopper would be a huge event. When it finally premiered early last week, fans were not disappointed. The central romantic relationship was developed in a very satisfying way, making sure people got more and more invested in Kit and Joe's characters.
Naturally, following the enormous success of the first season, Netflix's producers aimed to make the second instalment even more rewarding for fans. The fact that Oscar winner Olivia Colman joined the cast as Nick's mother confirmed that big stars were now taking an interest in appearing in Netflix's biggest romantic hit. However, Colman was not the only A-lister to appear in the second season.
Although this particular celebrity actor never actually appeared on the show himself, Heartstooper's producers clearly intended for his imminently recognisable voice to be instantly recognised by viewers, but, unfortunately, that never happened. When Charlie takes part in a running competition, the events are narrated by Headmaster Barnes, who was voiced by none other than Stephen Fry himself.
The iconic British actor and presenter is indeed one of the most popular LGBTQ+ personalities in the world, so his involvement in the show was certainly a big deal for the Heartstopper crew. Regrettably, it seems that most fans did not recognise Fry's signature voice, making his cameo one of the season's biggest mysteries.
Fortunately, Headmaster Barnes is already established as a character, so Fry can reprise his role in person in the upcoming third season and finally meet Nick and Charlie face to face. Fans would definitely be thrilled to see the beloved comedian again, as Fry has maintained a relatively low profile since stepping down as host of QI in 2016, focusing more on writing books than acting.
In any case, Heartstopper has already been renewed for a third season, and given that none of the actors are SAG-AFTRA members, it looks like it'll arrive on schedule in 2024.
