Fans are growing weary of hearing the same songs over and over again.

While The Voice is undeniably one of the world's most popular reality singing competitions, that doesn't mean the long-running show is without its flaws. One significant issue that has frustrated fans for quite some time now is that the judges often eclipse the singers themselves.

However, another, arguably more critical problem is emerging: the show's repetitive song selection, which ultimately bores both fans and judges. And for a show that supposedly promotes excellence in singing, that is a serious issue.

Despite the undeniable talent of many contestants, their potential is often wasted as they are called upon to sing the same old songs time and time again. Hearing the thousandth rendition of Lewis Capaldi's Someone You Loved is not simply boring as hell; it's already becoming painful.

Fans argue that The Voice producers should expand the range of songs contestants get to perform. There are only so many ways even the most talented contestants can cover a famous hit, meaning that, fundamentally, all renditions sound strikingly similar to one another.

‘They should at least limit how many times we have to hear any song throughout a season. There are millions of songs out there, and everyone just sticks to Lewis Capaldi, including American Idol contestants. It’s tired,’ one fan noted.

The Voice producers seem to have a major problem on their hands as the backlash against using the same songs over and over again keeps gathering steam. It is obvious that viewers are in no mood to spend night after night watching new contestants waste their talent and potential on the same old tracks that have already been featured in every single season of the show. It's high time the producers finally did something about it.

But, while fans don't shy away from expressing their dismay at the limited song selection, they also understand that, in the music business, money always gets the final say. The Voice is a great platform for promoting songs, and major record labels are capitalising on the opportunity, but if the show is to maintain its appeal, it's essential that it should diversify its musical repertoire and let contestants showcase the entire breadth and width of their talent by taking on challenging tracks.

The Voice Playoffs air on on NBC on 1 May and 8 May.
