The Voice Alum Arrested on Homicide Warrant
Former The Voice Season 10 contestant Kata Hay was arrested in Oklahoma and charged in connection with an alleged vehicular homicide. Authorities say multiple citizen tips led them to the singer, who had reportedly been on the run since the crash.
Not the kind of post-Voice update anyone wants to write: singer Kata Hay, who made it to the Top 20 in Season 10, has been arrested in Oklahoma on a vehicular homicide warrant out of Tennessee. Police say a wave of public tips helped them track her down after asking for help finding her. Yes, this one gets grim.
What police say happened
Hay was taken into custody in Oklahoma on December 17 after the Goodlettsville Police Department in Tennessee tried and failed to locate her and put out a public alert saying she might be heading west. Multiple tips rolled in, and officers arrested her at her Oklahoma residence on Wednesday morning. She was later extradited to Davidson County, which covers the Nashville area.
Officials have not released any details about the crash behind the warrant. She was reportedly on the run after the incident, which is why the department went public looking for help. Small but telling detail: in their update, police referred to her as Ms. Huddleston, which appears to be her legal surname even though she performs as Kata Hay.
'The Goodlettsville Police Department would like to thank the multitude of citizens who called in with tips as to the location of Ms. Huddleston. As a direct result, we are pleased to announce that she was arrested early this morning in Oklahoma, where she will be extradited back to Davidson County.'
A quick refresher on her Voice run
Hay tried to crack The Voice four times before finally getting through in 2016. Her blind audition was Gretchen Wilson's 'Redneck Woman,' which got chair turns from Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine, and Pharrell Williams. She picked Aguilera as her coach, made the Top 20, and was eliminated in Week 1 of the live playoffs.
Past legal issues
This arrest is the third time the 38-year-old has faced legal trouble:
- 2016: Appears on The Voice Season 10; reaches the Top 20.
- 2017: Placed on probation for DUI offenses.
- 2022: Serves six months in Sumner County after pleading guilty to having sexual contact with a minor.
- Dec. 17 (current case): Arrested in Oklahoma on a vehicular homicide warrant tied to a Tennessee crash; extradited to Davidson County. Police have not released crash details.
That is where things stand for now. When authorities share more about the crash itself, I will update, but at the moment the only concrete info is the arrest, the extradition, and the charge the warrant is tied to.
