The Sandman Season 2 Will Continue Netflix's Annoying Tradition
The streaming giant continues to annoy fans with their release schedules.
Neil Gaiman's The Sandman was one of the pleasant surprises of last year, as this supernatural tale of the God of Dreams trying to rebuild his kingdom after being held captive for a century proved to be a perfect fit for the television format.
Of course, like every other Gaiman book adapted for the screen, The Sandman lacked some of the things that made the comic book original great, but fans of the author were generally pleased with Netflix's show and urged the executives to renew it for a second season.
And a few months after the first season premiered, they did. But there's a catch.
While it's already out of the question to expect a major Netflix show on an annual basis, as the streaming service is rather notorious for premiering second seasons years after the first, it looks like fans of The Sandman won't have to wait too long to see Tom Sturridge as Dream again. As of now, production for the second season is already underway, and Netflix has announced that the first batch of filming will be split into two blocks — from June to October and from January to April of 2024.
While it's great that the producers already have a production plan in place for The Sandman, some fans began to worry about how these two blocks might affect the release of the second season. Viewers are concerned that Netflix would likely split the upcoming second season in two, just like it did with Money Heist, Ozark, and Stranger Things.
Obviously, viewers are pretty annoyed by this, accusing Netflix of using the cheap tactic just to force fans to subscribe to the service for a couple of months instead of just one. Moreover, the news that the producers are developing Season 2 as an eight-episode installment is quite troubling, as Netflix's penchant for cutting back on popular shows to save money is notorious among fans.
In any case, it's still great to see that the streaming giant is allowing the creators to have another go at Season 2, as last year, many fans suspected that The Sandman would be canceled without a second chance.
