While ABC's The Rookie may look a lot like other primetime police procedurals at first glance, its true beloved status comes not from the weekly criminal cases, but from the chemistry the cast has with each other.

With Nathan Fillion's great performance as John Nolan at the center, other characters have been given enough time to develop into truly fan-favorite figures, and Lucy Chen and Tim Bradford are the most striking examples of this careful and fruitful character development.

Early on in the show, Lucy and Tim seemed like total enemies, getting on each other's nerves at every appropriate and inappropriate opportunity, and fans loved the dynamic between them. Some fans are certain that it was Chenford's evolution from enemies to lovers that made their eventual pairing so special, as overcoming relationship difficulties always leads to the most satisfying endings on television.
