Megabonk’s wildest trick might also be its best: flip on Boss Curse and every boss and miniboss splits in two, turning brutal fights into high-risk, high-reward opportunities. Here’s how to cash in without getting crushed.

If you like your runs spicy, Megabonk has a switch that turns the heat all the way up. It is called Boss Curse, and flipping it basically clones every boss and miniboss you face. It is messy, it is risky, and it pays out like a broken vending machine if you can survive.

What Boss Curse actually does

Once Boss Curse is active, the game starts spawning duplicates of every boss and miniboss on that stage. Not reskins. Actual extra copies. Some of them can roll with stat bumps too, so the chaos is real. The upside: each extra body you drop means extra loot, more chests, and a nice bump in XP. If you are farming upgrades, this is the fast lane.

How to turn it on (and stack it)

You do not unlock this in a menu. You find it. While you are pushing through a stage, keep an eye out for a shrine that looks... well, bloody red. Walk up, interact, and the curse is live for that stage. If you stumble across more than one of those shrines, you can trigger them again to stack the effect. Translation: even more bosses at once. It is exactly as hectic as it sounds.

Limits and fine print

Boss Curse is not permanent. It does not follow you to the next stage. Every time you move on, you have to find another shrine and reactivate it. Think of it as a stage-by-stage deal: great if you are ready, a quick trip back to the loading screen if you are not.

When you should actually use it

Save Boss Curse for later in a run, when your build is dialed in and your weapons hit hard. If your DPS is not there or your kit is wobbly, doubling (or tripling) boss spawns is a fast way to get erased.

  • Activate by interacting with a bloody red shrine you find on a stage.
  • Effect: duplicates every boss and miniboss you face while it is active.
  • Risk: more enemies at once, and some may spawn with boosted stats.
  • Reward: extra chests, more loot rolls, and faster XP gains.
  • Stacks: multiple shrines in one stage stack the effect for even more bosses.
  • Duration: does not carry over; you must re-activate it on the next stage.
  • Tip: best used mid-to-late run with a reliable, high-damage build.
  • Achievement: the 'Speedboi' achievement is tied to using Boss Curse.
  • FYI: Megabonk is developed by Vedinad and is slated for 2025.

Bottom line

Boss Curse is a pure risk-reward button. Hit it when you are confident, cash out on the extra loot and XP, and enjoy the rush. Or hit it too early and watch two bosses turn your screen into confetti. Your call.
