The Mandalorian And Grogu Star Reveals Where The Star Wars Movie Stands Now

Jeremy Allen White confirms he’s voicing Rotta the Hutt in Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu — and hints the film is still in the booth, with more recording sessions ahead before it hits theaters.
Jeremy Allen White is officially lending his voice to a Hutt. Yes, that Hutt. He told Good Morning America he plays Rotta, Jabba the Hutt's kid, in the upcoming film 'Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu' — and it sounds like he still has more to record before we see it in theaters.
So who is he playing?
White says he is voicing Rotta the Hutt, who pops up (very briefly) in the teaser for 'The Mandalorian and Grogu.' If you remember the 2008 'Star Wars: The Clone Wars' movie, Rotta first showed up there, with a young Ahsoka Tano tasked with keeping him safe. His fate has been a giant question mark ever since, which makes his return here a pretty notable pull for longtime fans. The teaser also suggests this Rotta might not be the same baby slug you remember.
How he got the gig
White says Jon Favreau personally brought him in after they met. He has been a fan of Favreau's for years, so when Favreau floated the idea of a Star Wars voice role, White jumped at it. Only later did it hit him how much history comes with voicing Jabba's heir.
Where the movie is at right now
White called the whole thing a fun process, but also admitted it is ongoing. He recorded some lines before cameras rolled, came back after the movie shot, and expects to do another pass. He also mentioned chatting with Pedro Pascal recently, who was doing additional work of his own and getting a look at more of the film. In other words: the usual behind-the-scenes cleanup for a giant sci-fi movie is happening.
'I came in to do the voice. They had not filmed the movie yet. Then they made the movie, I came and did more. I will probably have to do a little bit more. I spoke to Pedro the other day, and I think he was doing some more work, and seeing more of the film.'
White's recording timeline so far
- Pre-shoot: Initial voice session before principal photography
- Post-shoot: Additional recording after the movie was filmed
- Next up: Likely another round before release
'Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu' hits theaters on May 22, 2026. Expect Rotta to make an impression this time.
