When furries have their finest hour.

The 2023 Met Gala was dedicated to the controversial designer Karl Lagerfeld. It's no surprise that alongside black and white outfits, Chanel show references, and countless pearls, cats emerged as one of the recurring themes.

Lagerfeld left a significant legacy to the fashion world and a substantial bequest to his favourite muse, the white Burmese cat Choupette. Although the cat did not directly participate in the event, she became the unofficial mascot of this year's Met Gala. No one paid tribute to her in a more outrageous way than Jared Leto, with fans' reactions being as hilarious as the outfit itself.

Leto wasn't the only one paying homage. Just minutes before him, Doja Cat arrived at the ball wearing a stunning silver beaded dress with a wool (or fur?) train, complemented by alien cat ears and makeup. Lil Nas X also went full glamour, his body covered in pearls and his mask resembling a cat's face. Janelle Monáe and Chloe Fineman attended the gala with cat bags.

But let's face it, no one expected to see a full fursuit at an event where major media personalities strut their stuff. Initially, no one knew who hid behind the cat costume, with even Lizzo wondering if she was tripping.

Generally, no one seemed surprised when Leto removed his mask.

'Of course it would be him,' someone said on Twitter. The actor/musician is known for his outlandish costumes. In 2019, he ascended the Met stairs in a Gucci outfit while holding his own head, and in 2022, he arrived with a literal doppelganger.

'I know it smells like molded cheese in that suit,' another fan said. Although that sounds disgusting, imagine the heat inside a suit like that, especially with Leto wearing makeup underneath.

Perhaps it was Jared's committed method acting that completely immersed him in the story of Karl Lagerfeld's cat. It's good he didn't knock everything off the carpet like a cat upon seeing something shiny.

'The real question is did anyone bring a large laser pointer?' Another Twitter user pointed out.

Although the catsuit was the main attraction, Leto appeased some Lagerfeld admirers by later changing into a luxurious outfit comprising a black cape, semi-sheer blouse, skirt, and pants.
