Fans loved the new episode, but The Weeknd is still derailing the show.

Sam Levinson's The Idol is definitely the most popular show this summer, but not for a good reason, unfortunately. After the first episode aired on June 4, viewers began to trash The Idol and its creators for adding an insane amount of nudity to their show and apparently normalizing all the crazy and lurid stuff happening behind the scenes in the music industry.

Also, the story itself feels too dull to make viewers care about pop star Joselyn (Lily-Rose Depp) being seduced by sleazy Tedros (The Weeknd). However, some fans claim that the show is getting better with each new episode. But is that really true?

In the recently released Episode 3, viewers were treated to more of the same — Tedros having sex with Jocelyn, Jocelyn having sex with Tedros, and all of the young singer's friends and associates worrying about The Weeknd's character taking control of their lives. Sounds boring, right? Well, it was pretty boring until one really uncomfortable table scene in the episode's finale.

As the characters were eating dinner, Jocelyn told her newfound mentor about her abusive mother, who used to beat her with a hairbrush to motivate her. After hearing this, Tedros decided to remind the singer of his control over her by hitting her with a hairbrush, just like her mother used to do. The whole scene was really disgusting to watch, but it was Lily-Rose Depp's performance in it that really made fans care about The Idol and its characters.

'The table scene was immaculate. It gives the stage scene a run for its money. I can see this show has its shining moments. However, it's for like 15% of the episode…The other 75% is gibberish and bad acting and writing,' a fan wrote.

While Depp is being praised for her performance, most people were unconvinced with The Weeknd's portrayal of the psychopathic Tedros in the scene.

'The Weeknd brought the severity down. Him threatening that guy was so corny and not scary. They could have written that scene better. His delivery and his voice don't add anything to the scene. I wish this wasn't such a vanity project to him,' one fan noted.

The Idol Episode 4 will arrive on HBO on June 25, 2023.
