How Many Seasons Will Outlander: Blood of My Blood Have?

Right now, Outlander: Blood of My Blood is confirmed for two seasons — and the second is already in production before the first even aired.
The ten-episode Season 1 premiered August 8, 2025 on Starz, and the early renewal came in June, two months ahead of launch.
Showrunner Matthew B. Roberts said,
"The passion and talent our cast and crew have poured into Outlander: Blood of my Blood has been extraordinary and we're thrilled to continue these epic love stories in Season Two. Just as audiences fell in love with Jamie and Claire, we hope viewers will be enamored by these new couples when they meet them this summer."
The series splits its story between 18th-century Scotland and World War I England, following Jamie Fraser's parents — Ellen MacKenzie (Harriet Slater) and Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy) — and Claire Beauchamp's parents — Julia Moriston (Hermione Corfield) and Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine).
Fans react to the early renewal
Reaction on r/Outlander was almost entirely positive.
"Yay!!! It is so much easier to get invested into a show when you know it's not going to be ripped away from you after one season," one fan wrote.
Another added, "I had been waiting to renew my Starz subscription and now I will!" Others celebrated with comments like "Fantastic news!!!! Can't wait to see the premiere in August as we are all in serious Droughtlander!" and "Absolutely perfect casting — it's incredible."
Actor Peter Mullan's role as Red Jacob MacKenzie also generated hype, with one user predicting, "He'll have the fiery disposition of Dougal but the sly/measured and cunning that we see with Collum and Jamie."
Will it go beyond Season 2?
This is where the debate starts. Some believe the show was designed for two seasons from the start. One fan predicted Season 1 would end with Brian and Ellen's wedding, leaving Season 2 to cover the deaths of both couples, calling it "a fairly complete story."
Others point to hints of a longer run.
One comment claimed "they have 4 seasons planned," though skeptics argued that expanding beyond the parents' deaths would stray from the prequel premise.
Several noted that Starz COO Jeff Hirsch "is very down on long-term series," which could keep the episode count limited.
Book readers mentioned that Diana Gabaldon has three prequel novellas planned, enough to fill more than two seasons if adapted fully.
What we know now
Starz has two seasons locked. Anything beyond that will depend on viewership, production costs, and whether the network wants to expand into Jamie and Claire's childhoods. As one fan summed it up: "This bodes well for Season 1! I'm very excited to know we are going to have at least 2 seasons!!!"
