Fans couldn’t help wondering whether the two singers share a friendship or simply a professional relationship, and it seems like their question has been answered now.

The Idol, a series co-created by Sam Levinson and The Weeknd, has already kicked off a maelstrom of controversy due to its abundance of explicit scenes. While a substantial number of viewers advocate boycotting the show, others commend The Weeknd for his unrestrained creative vision. Regardless of its polarised reception, The Idol is destined to leave an indelible mark on television history and make the actors that appear in it even more famous.

However, people can't help but wonder if Blackpink's Jennie only joined the show for publicity or whether she is actually good friends with The Weeknd in real life.

Though the pair had not collaborated before The Idol, it appears that The Weeknd made friends with Jennie before she was cast in The Idol. During a recent interview, the pop icon referred to Jennie as a good friend and lauded her performance on the show, characterising her as a multifaceted talent.

‘It’s important that we get someone like Jennie who understands this world. A lot of these musicians, like myself, are non-actors, and we all understand the world, we all understand these characters. We’re all tapping into a place. And I think Jennie does it incredibly well on the show. I’m really proud of her,’ The Weeknd said.

With her appearance in only two episodes of The Idol thus far, Jennie has already evoked anticipation for her potential acting career, with fans considering her a critical presence on the show. It's genuinely refreshing to witness eminent music industry stars transition to acting, and both The Weeknd and Jennie are demonstrating they can totally pull it off this new realm.

However, given Jennie's ongoing commitments to her music career, don't anticipate her to take part in any films or series in the near future. The controversy stirred by The Idol could potentially deter the young singer. Still, with four more episodes of The Idol yet to air, the Korean superstar might continue to impress fans with her performance.

The Idol Episode 3 will arrive on HBO on 18 June 2023.
