The iconic sitcom ended on a disappointing note.

NBC's sitcom-slash-crime procedural has been a huge hit since it premiered in 2013, delighting fans with wacky character development, hilarious sight gags, and great acting from Andy Samberg, Terry Crews, and the rest of the hugely talented comedic cast.

However, all great things must come to an end, and it was clear for some time that Samberg was ready to say goodbye to his longtime commitment to Brooklyn Nine-Nine, forcing NBC to end the sitcom after eight years on the air.

The last season aired in September 2021, and many fans were quite upset about the direction the sitcom had taken with its final installment.

Even though the series itself was beloved by viewers throughout its original run, it looks like its final 10-episode seasons proved to be a major disappointment for fans of the cop saga, as the show began to pay much more attention to raising social issues rather than actually making people laugh.

While it's commendable that the writers decided to focus on the COVID pandemic and racial issues in the final season, many felt that Brooklyn Nine-Nine was simply not the right vehicle to explain these issues, as the show is a comedy, not a drama.

'It was sad to see that the final season was so bad in quality. Highlighting the prevalent issues in society is important. But it seems that show writers everywhere are forgetting that the common man turns to shows like these just to have a laugh and escape from the terrible stuff happening in the world. If you're going to sacrifice the core of the show and put all focus on promoting ideas and agendas (no matter how righteous), the quality will suffer,' a fan lamented on Reddit.

While it was interesting to see how fictional comedy characters dealt with real-life issues facing many Americans today, Brooklyn Nine-Nine lost much of its original appeal as a result of this experiment, forcing fans to watch a show they no longer recognized.

In any case, the last two episodes were still popular with viewers, as they managed to wrap up all of the characters' storylines while providing some good old-fashioned laughs.
