Find out which movies Quentin Tarantino labelled 'perfect'.

Quentin Tarantino is a man who knows a thing or two about movies. So, when he recommends a film to watch, you should probably watch it. But the legendary director has done more than that; he's named six films he says everyone should watch at least once.

Talking to Jimmy Kimmel, Tarantino listed a bunch of movies he says are 'perfect'. And (in no particular order) here they are:

  • The Exorcist

  • Jaws

  • The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

  • Annie Hall

  • Young Frankenstein

  • Back to the Future

The lack of what he calls 'perfect movies,' he says, is evidence that 'the film art form is hard'. He went on to say that each of these films, while it 'might not be your cup of tea, there's nothing you can say to bring it down.'

While listing them, he was at one point hesitant about including Young Frankenstein but said he could 'understand' why some people might call it perfect. He also came very close to naming The Wild Bunch before going to 'its imperfections are part of its glory' and immediately scrubbing it off.

In the interview, which saw Tarantino talk about his book Cinema Speculation, Tarantino agreed with Kimmel that movie criticism 'is an art form in itself'. And he picked out two critics for a special mention; Kevin Thomas, whom he loves, and Sheila Benson, whom he was less fond of.

He even described her as a 'school ma'amish' and a 'laughingstock' in the entertainment industry who was a 'buzzkill about everything'.

Aside from bigging up other people's movies, Tarantino also spoke about one of his own films. Asked by Kimel about Kanye West's claim that he came up with the idea for Django Unchained. Putting it bluntly, he said, 'That's not true' and that he had the idea for Django long before he ever met Kanye.

However, the rapper did have an idea for a slave-based video, which Tarantino said he thought was for the track Gold Digger. Quite how that turned into Kanye believing that the entire concept of the movie is not really clear.

But if he's going to make up a story about how he came up with the idea for a film, the rapper might want to consider claiming one of the six films that Quentin Tarantino has described as perfect. These are the films that the director believes everyone should see at least once in their lives.
