Teen Wolf's Most Cringeworthy Moment: What Were They Thinking?
Fans can't help but wonder if the writers of Teen Wolf might actually be misogynistic.
MTV's Teen Wolf was one of the defining shows of the 2010s, proving that there was a huge market for supernatural shows with teenage leads.
And the fact that the show had a great cast of young actors, some skilled writers, and an impeccable small-town atmosphere helped make Teen Wolf the cult classic it is today. However, all this praise doesn't mean that the show didn't have its share of issues, seeing how one cringe-worthy moment still triggers fans a decade later.
Allison Argent was undoubtedly one of the show's most popular original characters, as her arc immediately grabbed the attention of fans and never let go until her heartbreaking death. However, early on, fans were a bit concerned about the direction the writers were taking with her storyline. One dubious moment really made people doubt if the people who created Allison understood her.
At one point in one of the first episodes of Teen Wolf, Allison is seen chastising herself for 'freaking out like a girly girl'. The problem is that she doesn't see herself as a girly girl. While fans appreciate the sentiment of even the toughest character losing it under pressure, many people were offended by how the writers phrased the whole line, accusing them of misogyny.
'It just felt uncomfortably misogynistic to me, especially when she said that about crying,' one fan confessed.
Fans found it insensitive that the writers thought a girl couldn't be considered brave and tough if she cried occasionally and called it just plain unfair. Now, it would have been a huge disappointment for the fandom to hear any Teen Wolf character say that line, but the fact that it was Allison who said it made it even worse because she was always supportive of and kind to her friends, so that line was totally out of character for her.
Of course, that cringe-worthy moment can't be erased from existence, but at least fans are happy that the writers stopped destroying Allison's personality in the later parts of the series and developed her into a truly strong character.
