It looks like one huge Star Wars reference might point to a redemption arc for one of the characters.

The Apple TV series about American football coach Ted Lasso traveling to England to train a soccer team has been a hit since its first season in 2020.

Fans loved the feel-good atmosphere of the series and Jason Sudeikis' performance in the lead role instantly made the beloved comedy actor a superstar. With the release of the first episode of the third season, fans have been examining every scene looking for clues as to what to expect next, and it seems one important reference has been found.

For some inexplicable reason, Ted Lasso has always been compared to Star Wars, and it seems that what started out as a joke theory is finally becoming a reality.

In the first episode of season three, Nate, who had ditched his former Richmond teammates and joined the team of major rival West Ham, was escorted into his new boss Rupert's office, and fans were stunned by how much the office reminded them of the Emperor's Throne Room from Star Wars.

Following this huge reference, theories that Rupert is similar to Emperor Palpatine have started to reappear at a huge rate, putting Nate's future in question.

As Palpatine is known to have been destroyed by his own creation, fans rightly suspect that at some point this season, Nate will quit his head coaching position and return to Richmond, helping the team beat Rupert's club.

While this redemption arc for Nate seems perfectly logical, not all fans are willing to accept the antihero back home, arguing that he's already done so many nasty things that it's simply impossible to forgive him. But given the general atmosphere of Ted Lasso, it's more than likely that both Ted and Rebecca will forgive Nate and hire him back for an important position in Richmond.

Ted Lasso Season 3 Episode 2 "(I Don't Want to Go to) Chelsea" will arrive on Apple TV on March 22, 2023.
