Ted Lasso Penultimate Episode had One of the Best Cameos in TV History

Despite being a show centred around football, the third season of Ted Lasso somewhat strayed from this premise, focusing extensively on the antics of Keeley's PR firm and Rebecca's quest for contentment. This narrative shift provoked criticism, with some fans labelling the current season as the weakest in the series.

Fortunately, the show's creators returned to form by making the latest episode, Mom City, all about football and including in it an unexpected cameo that thrilled die-hard British Premier League fans.

The episode saw Ted struggle more than ever to lead Richmond to victory after being left practically all alone with his thoughts and little support from anyone. Then a famous coach turned up, providing a much-needed boost to Ted's morale. Football fans were stunned to see Pep Guardiola talking to Ted on the show, seeing how the star coach is widely known to have an exceptionally busy schedule.

Pep, the current manager of Manchester City and former manager of Barcelona and Bayern Munich, is widely regarded as the best football coach in the world at the moment, so his appearance on the Apple TV + show meant a great deal to English football fans. What's more, Guardiola didn't just stand in the background; he actually interacted with Ted, telling him how talented he really is, and Ted's reaction made fans love him even more.

‘Most people would've jumped at that chance to declare how much they've been following the same philosophy in order to appear as an equal to someone like Pep...but Ted didn't feel the need to do that. He was just happy (and inwardly fangirling) about the exchange.’ a fan said.

Fans are already calling Pep's cameo the best in television history, as it was not only completely unexpected but also extremely well-written: Pep himself comes across as being really invested in making the scene between him and Ted work.

‘I laughed when he appeared on screen, and the delivery of his lines is almost exactly like how he’d say it irl, as if he’d come up with those lines himself,’ another fan noted.

And this cameo couldn't have been more timely, as just last week Manchester City won their 9th Premier League title, all thanks to Pep's brilliant strategic skills. Kudos to Apple TV for inviting such a legend to the show!
